The top Grossing Film of 2015 was Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens opposed to IMDb's prediction of Avengers Age of Ultron. Star wars was released during the Christmas Holidays and had a big build up of marketing before its release, everything was star wars or had star wars on it. Plus Star Wars hadn't been seen for years and it was a sequel to the original trilogy from 1977. It is a classic feel good blockbuster movie of good versus evil and classic feel good setting of starters so many would go and see it. It was produced and distributed by Disney so set to be a big film. Had big names in there as well as new ones.
The second top grossing film of 2015 was in fact Jurassic World, which actually turns up 9th on IMDb's prediction list. Again Jurassic World is a massive film of the year, with all its predecessors being classics and the amazing marketing for the film with Dinosaurs in Waterloo Station in London. Had the new big name of Jurassic World and with Chris Pratt the star from Guardians of Galaxy a big hit people go and see it.
The third top grossing film was Age of Ultron, so it was not at the top like Imdb guessed, this is most likely due to the fact that one Star Wars is a such a bigger film than Avengers, also Marvel has been going crazy with releasing films over the last few years and so the idea is getting a little boring, its a sequel to the last avengers film so it is bound to do worse. Imdb predicted spectre too be the third most grossing film but Spectre is actually 11th on the list of grossing films. Underneath a bunch of Disney films.
The fourth top grossing film of 2015 was Inside Out, a Pixar animation film appealing to everyone, everyone loves a fun childrens film, beating what IMDB predicted (Hunger Games : Mockingly Part 2) by 4 parts up the list. Hunger Games is again becoming a bit of an old idea being around for the last few years everyone is bored of that franchise and series of films. It was released during the summer time when families are trying to occupy their children so going to the cinema works for that and so they would go and see the children animation film.
Finally the fitfth top grossing film of 2015 was Fast and Furious 7, obviously with the build up of Paul Walker (one of the main actors in all the furious films) death in 2013 their was big media coverage of the fact that he died and how it would effect the filming of the film was widely publicized and therefore the film was publicized, so people may have gone to see it just out of respect for Paul Walkers death and therefore beat the IMBD prediction of it being 8th.
